Ineos Grenadier Power Folding Mirror Kit: Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Ineos Grenadier Power Folding Mirror Kit: Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Real-World Utility: Overcoming the Grenadier's Fixed Mirror Problem

The Ineos Grenadier is built like a mechanical tank. But when you squeeze this heavy-duty rig into a tight city parking slot or a narrow overland trail, its wide footprint becomes a real problem. The factory side mirrors stand out broad and unyielding, pushing total vehicle width past 80 inches.

Every time you park near a concrete pillar or brush past low-hanging branches, you risk expensive mirror damage. Getting out of the cabin to fold the passenger mirror manually is a frustrating routine that does not match a premium 4x4 built for personal autonomy.

The STREK Power Folding Side Mirrors are designed to eliminate this daily friction point. Developed specifically for the 2023-2025 Ineos Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster, this system integrates motorized folding capability into your existing setup with zero wire cutting.

Product SKU: SAPINGR077
Core Design: 100% plug-and-play inline harness. No cutting factory wires. No modification to the factory BMW electrical architecture.

For off-road or private land use only. Check local regulations before use.

Hardware Audit: Kit Contents and Tool Checklist

Before stripping down your side mirrors, verify every component inside the STREK hardware box. Missing a single wiring clip halfway through the install will leave your truck stranded in the garage with disassembled door panels.

Kit Contents (SKU SAPINGR077):

  • Left and right motorized folding mirror motor units
  • STREK main wiring harness with inline T-harness connectors
  • Left and right motor extension cables
  • Central module box
  • STREK specialized spring compression tool (rod, large washer, small washer, locking nut)
  • Double-sided foam mounting pad
  • Zip ties and high-grade cloth wrap tape

Required Tools:

  • Plastic non-marring interior pry tools
  • T20 and T30 Torx screwdrivers
  • 10mm socket wrench or deep socket
  • Electrical insulation tape / high-grade cloth tape
  • Clean microfiber towel or foam-padded work surface

The internal pivot mechanism of the factory Ineos side mirror relies on a heavy-duty high-tension steel spring. Attempting to compress this component with basic workshop pliers is dangerous and will cause permanent damage to your factory mirror housing. The included STREK specialized compression tool is mandatory for this step.

Mechanical Deconstruction: Housing Disassembly and Motor Replacement

Execute this phase on a clean, padded workbench. Set a thick foam liner or microfiber towel down first to protect the factory exterior paint finish from friction scratches while you work under load.

Push the bottom edge of the factory mirror glass fully inward by hand. This tilts the top edge outward, opening a clear access gap at the top. Insert your plastic non-marring pry tool into the upper recess and apply gentle, uniform leverage upward to pop the mirror glass platform off its circular motor actuator clips.

Do not pull the glass away immediately. The factory blind spot and mirror heating wiring looms are still connected to the back of the lens. Use needle-nose pliers to slide the two metal terminal clips off the heating elements. Tag these wires with tape for identification later.

Remove the inner structural Torx screws inside the mirror cavity using your T20 screwdriver. Pull the factory plastic decorative trim assembly away from the cast-metal skeleton to expose the primary pivot axis and the high-tension compression spring.

Assemble the STREK specialized compression tool by threading the long high-tensile steel rod down through the center hole of the factory mirror pivot base. Slide the large metal washer over the top of the spring, followed by the small washer, then thread the locking nut onto the rod. Tighten the nut downward with a standard wrench to compress the spring and remove tension from the factory steel retaining plate. Once fully compressed, use pliers to turn the retaining lock plate counterclockwise and release the factory fixed mechanical bracket from the main housing.

Retaining Your Factory Lens Heating Function

Generic aftermarket folding brackets often block the factory heating wire path, forcing you to choose between folding capability and defogging function. STREK's folding motor unit is designed to route both the original two-wire heating loom and the new motorized harness together through the central axis channel, keeping your mirror defogging system fully operational.

Door Panel Stripping and Cabin Wiring Pass-Through

Removing the door interior card requires patience and uniform pressure. The Ineos platform uses high-retention structural clips alongside hidden metal fasteners to secure the trim panel against the ladder-frame body.

Pop the plastic trim plate inside the armrest pull pocket free using your non-marring tool to reveal the primary T30 structural Torx bolts. Unfasten these screws completely. Work your way around the bottom and lateral margins of the interior door skin, popping the perimeter retention clips loose by pulling the door card straight toward you with a controlled tug. Lift the complete assembly upward to clear the upper window weatherstripping sill. Disconnect the inner door latch mechanical cable and the electronic wiring plugs before setting the panel aside.

Unbolt the four 10mm screws retaining the door low-frequency speaker. Lift the speaker unit out and unplug its wiring connector to open a physical access hole into the door cavity. Feed the STREK motor extension harness through this opening, routing it toward the forward hinge pillar.

Thread the wiring through the flexible rubber accordion boot sleeve spanning the gap between the metal door shell and the A-pillar. Use a flexible plastic wire puller or fish tape wrapped in electrical insulation tape to slide the connector through the tight rubber boot without tearing the internal waterproof membrane or cracking the factory plastic boots. Pull the extension cable fully into the vehicle cabin footwell.

Electronic Integration: Central Module Wiring and Signal Tapping

The Ineos Grenadier relies on sensitive digital network communication. The STREK kit uses an inline T-harness design to keep the factory data footprint clean and unmodified.

Mount the Central Module Box inside the cavity beneath the driver side lower dashboard cluster using the supplied double-sided foam pad against a flat metal surface. This location isolates the module from cabin vibration on rough tracks.

Plug both left and right motor extension cable connectors firmly into their designated side ports on the module box until you hear a distinct plastic click. Insert the large white terminal plug of the STREK Main Wiring Harness into the main central terminal receptor on the module box.

Locate a factory metal ground post underneath the dashboard. Secure the black wire with the pre-crimped ring terminal tightly beneath the factory 10mm grounding bolt to eliminate electrical noise issues.

Route the fused positive power red wire toward your designated power source junction and connect it to a constant positive 12V circuit feed. This connection maintains the standby current needed to monitor vehicle security commands.

Bypassing the Ineos CAN-Bus Error Trap

The BMW-sourced platform electronics on the Grenadier monitor electrical impedance values continuously across all major looms. Cutting into factory wires or stripping copper strands to intercept lock and unlock pulses changes circuit resistance, causing the vehicle computer to report a permanent phantom bus fault and generating warning indicators on the dashboard.

STREK bypasses this entirely. The plug-and-play main harness intercepts the factory connector terminal located directly beneath the steering column cluster. By clicking the male-to-female terminal adapters inline, the module reads door lock and unlock square-wave voltage signals without drawing invasive current or altering wire integrity. This keeps your factory residual value intact and leaves your warranty footprint clean.

Match the remaining black adapter plug of the STREK main loom with the open interface connector on the vehicle interior data integration block to complete the electrical link. Wrap high-grade cloth tape around the module wiring branch bundles to secure the loom and dampen wire movement noise on rough terrain.

Diagnostic Calibration, Functional Verification, and Panel Reassembly

Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to restore power to the cabin electrical grid. Before clipping any interior trim back into place, perform a live operational check on the power folding mechanism. This step prevents having to strip the door cards down a second time if a terminal plug is loose.

Sit in the driver seat and actuate the factory interior mirror control toggles to verify the left and right mirrors swing without mechanical binding. Step outside the truck, close all doors, and press the lock button on your factory key fob. The mirrors should fold flush parallel to the door panels. Pressing the unlock button should deploy the housings back to driving position.

Once you confirm full system operation, use the supplied zip ties to secure the STREK wiring loom away from the window glass drop path inside the door cavity. Re-bolt the 10mm screws on the lower door speakers. Position the door interior shell over the top window weatherstripping sill, align the retention pins with the factory slots, and push firmly until the perimeter retainers lock. Secure the T30 structural Torx bolts.
